Mr. Clarence Ray Flippin, 76, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday morning, November 27, 2013, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born March 1, 1937, in Surry County, to the late Edna Edwards Flippin and Preacher Grover Flippin. Mr. Flippin retired from Pike Electric and was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church. He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law C. Ray Flippin, Jr. and Penny Gail of Mount Airy, Jeffrey Dwayne Flippin and Donna of Pilot Mountain, and Michael James Flippin of Kernersville; six grandchildren, Jacob Flippin, Maria Watson, Sarah Hicks, Heather Flippin, Kenneth Flippin, and Noah Flippin; five great-grandchildren, Rylan, Hayston, Adelyn, Karsen, and Macie; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty Mae Cook and Roger of Dobson; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold Flippin and Edith of Mount Airy; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Flippin of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Flippin was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Hawks Flippin; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Lawrence Flippin and Monroe and Ruth Flippin. A graveside service will be held Friday, November 29, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Bill Spurlin officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mount Vernon Baptist Church, c/o Rev. Bill Spurlin, 141 Spurlin Lane, Lowgap, NC 27024.
