Clayton Solomon Watson

Mr. Clayton Solomon Watson, 90, of 269 Noonkester Drive, Mount Airy, passed away Tuesday morning, July 15, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Watson was born May 19, 1924, in Surry County, the son of the late Solomon and Edna Mills Watson. Clayton was a master carpenter and tobacco farmer for many years and a member of Westfield Baptist Church. In his spare time, he truly enjoyed flat footing and playing his harmonica with The Snow Creek Band. He is survived by his companion, Margot Dominic Sams of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey Vann and Crystal Watson of Yadkinville; three grandchildren, Doyle Watson and his wife, Stacey, of Pilot Mountain, Jennifer Watson King and her husband, Benny, of Stuart, VA, and Stephanie J. Watson and her fiancé, Steve Seigler, of Mount Airy; and three great-grandchildren, Levi Watson, Lukah Watson, and London Watson, all of Pilot Mountain. In addition to his parents, Mr. Watson was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Oneita Hill Watson; a son, Lendon Brent Watson; and three brothers, Lacy Watson, Elbert Watson, and Jay Vann Watson. The funeral service will be held Friday, July 18, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Rickey Rogers, the Rev. Bill Watson, and the Rev. Dale Cline officiating. Burial will follow in the Westfield Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem and Alison Leah Shiminski, PA-C, at Pilot Mountain Medical Care. Also, the family is grateful for the love and care given by Sylvia Hill in the last few months.
