Mr. Clifford Hawks, known to many as “Lawnmower Man” age 82, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Hawks was born in Surry County on March 22, 1944, to the late Alfred Anderson and Edna Griffith Hawks. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, sibling and friend, who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mr. Hawks worked many years with Proctor Silex as a material handler, and was long known as lawn mower man in the Pine Ridge Community, working on lawnmowers. Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 58 years, Judy Wood Hawks; daughters and son-in-law, Rhonda Woods and Randy, Lisa Hawks and Skip Evans; grandchildren and their spouses, Randy Lee Woods and Ashley, Delilah Marie “Sweet Potato” Woods and Jessica Nieland, Autum Jade Evans, Landon River Evans, and Katelyn Marie Evans; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Carol Jackson; special fur babies, Steve, Whiskey, Marcel; grand dog, Princess Izzy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawks was preceded in death by his sisters, Opal Hawks, Ann Inman, infant sister, Nettie Faye Hawks; brother, Loyd Lee Hawks. The family will hold a celebration of Mr. Hawks’ life at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of VA Home Base of Salem, VA, Novant Cancer Center, and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice, for the care and compassion shown.
