Mr. Clyde M. Conner, of Garner, died Sunday morning, October 5, 2014, at his home following a stroke. He was born February 19, 1930, in Forsyth County, to Claude and Ruth Graham Conner. He was a 1950 graduate of Lewisville School. After working at Home Beneficial Life Insurance Company and ColorCraft Corporation, he retired in 1995 from National Health Lab in Winston-Salem.
Mr. Conner is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dora Harper Conner; a son, Dennis Conner (Sherie) of Garner; a daughter, Jane C. Thacker (Kelis) of St. Louis, MO; a granddaughter, Catherine T. Shiliga (Jeremy) of Downers Grove, IL; three grandsons, Nelson Conner (Lynn) of Mount Airy, Ryan Thacker (Sarah) of Blythewood, SC, and Cameron Thacker of Madison, WI; three great-grandchildren, Crystal Conner of Elkin, and David Conner and Zachary Conner, both of Pilot Mountain; two stepgrandchildren, Austin Lutz of Charlotte and Casey Lutz of Columbia, SC; a step-great-grandchild, Clara Barnett of Columbia, SC; a sister, Billie Ridings of Lewisville; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Conner of Winston-Salem; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Terre Conner; his brothers and a sister-in law, Graham Conner (Era Mae), Lawrence Conner, and Clarence Conner; sisters and brothers-in-law, Muncie C. Houck (Cecil), Ann Solomon (Clyde), Zola Sapp (Marvin), Agnes Miller (Milton), and Ethel Harper (Luther); a brother-in-law, Troy Ridings; a great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Conner; as well as several nieces and nephews.
While living in Forsyth County, Mr. Conner was a member of Warners Chapel Church of Christ. After moving to Yadkinville, he transferred his membership to the Yadkinville Church of Christ, then to Brooks Avenue Church of Christ in Raleigh.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Dr. Johnny Melton and Dennis Conner officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home.
