Mr. Coy Dean Bowman, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Surry Community Health Center by Harborview. Mr. Bowman was born July 25, 1937, in Surry County, the son of the late Virgil Turner and Gracie Melissa Goins Bowman. Coy proudly served his country in the United States Army and worked for many years at L.S. Starrett Company. He was a faithful member of Northside Baptist Church and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. He also had a love for Bluegrass music and enjoyed listening to WPAQ radio. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Childress Bowman; his three sons from his previous marriage to the late Imalene Quesinberry Bowman, Michael Bowman (Vanise), Jerry Bowman (Penny), and Dannie Bowman (Sandy); his honorary daughter and dance partner, Kim Bowman; his stepchildren, Trent Childress (Janet) and Sandra Joyce (Blandy); his grandchildren, Abby Monclova (Eric), Amber Bowman, Turner Bowman (Ashley), Nicholas Bowman (Stephanie), Sabrina Yopp (Russell), Colby Bowman, Whittley McMillian (Casey), and Aaron Bowman; his great-grandchildren, Adelaide Bowman, Caleb Bowman, Harper Bowman, Veda Bowman, Caroline McMillian, Cassie McMillian, Baby McMillian, and Baby Yopp; five stepgrandchildren; several great-stepgrandchildren; his sisters-in-law, Nellie Bowman, Barbara Bowman, and Patsy Bowman; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his first wife and parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter Haywood Bowman, William Maynard Bowman, and Sammy Aldie Bowman. The funeral service will be held Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Northside Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jacob Flippen officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, P.O. Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017; or Northside Baptist Church, 886 Fowler Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
