Cressie Edwards Flippen, age 83 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon May 8, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson surrounded by her loving and supportive family. She was born June 17, 1941, in Carroll County, VA to the late Henry Foyster Edwards and Ethel Jones Edwards. Cressie had retired from Pine Ridge Classic Golf Course after 18 years and had worked for over 18 years at Boles Fabric Shop also. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Don Williams; two sons and daughters-in-law, Phillip Flippen and Lisa McQueen, and Barry and Tammy Flippen; nine grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; sister, Nina Edwards Livengood; several nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends. In addition to her parents, Ms. Flippen was preceded in death by an infant daughter at the age of two months, Judy Kay Flippen; grandson, Tommy Williams; two great-grandsons, Alexander Luke Flippen and Ezra Andrew Flippen; sister, Sarah Irene Edwards Cockerham; and brothers, Alvin “Al” Foster Edwards, and Austin Lee Edwards. Funeral services will be held on Monday May 12, 2025, in the Moody Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00am with Pastor Woody Flippen officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. The burial will take place in the Laurel Springs Baptist Church Cemetery following the service. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
