Dalmer Lewis Chilton

Mr. Dalmer Lewis Chilton, age 97 of Mount Airy, passed away on Tuesday morning, March 12, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Chilton was born in Surry County on February 21, 1927, to the late Elmer and Lou Ella Smith Chilton.  Dalmer proudly served his country in the United States Army.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed. Surviving are his daughters, Carol Jean Johnson, Kathy Chilton; son and daughter-in-law, Lewis Dean Chilton and Debbie; special son-in-law, Eugene Johnson; grandchildren and spouses, Todd Johnson and Cassina Maynor, Chris Johnson and Kelly, Scottie Chilton and Amber, Josh Chilton, Amanda Bare and Jason, Ashley Simmons and Colt, Chase Joyce; great-grandchildren, Michael Johnson and Mimi, Jessica Johnson, Charlie Johnson, Hannah Baker and Austin, Cameron Chilton, Bella Chilton, Brayden Chilton, Breelyn Bare, Jaylon Bare, Tyson Simmons, Aubree Kathleen Simmons; a great great-grandchild expected in April; special caregiver, Shelby Graybeal; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Chilton was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Kathleen Kirkman Chilton; a grandson, Travis Chilton; and three sister, Dorothy Chilton Bateman, Maxine Chilton Simmons; and Mary Laura Chilton Stevens.  A graveside service will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Skyline Memory Gardens with Reverend Rusty Reed officiating.   Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain.  No formal visitation will be held.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bannertown Volunteer Fire Department, Fireman’s Fund, P.O. Box 1114, Mount Airy, North Carolina 27030.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
