Mr. Darrell Ray (Butch) Byrd Sr., age 83, of Mt. Airy, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2025 at his home. He was born on July 2, 1942 in McDowell County, West Virginia to the late Elmer and Ruth Hemrick Byrd. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Wanda Shumate Byrd; children, Darrell (Stephanie) Byrd Jr., Randy (Janet) Byrd, Bryanna (Marty) Johnson; grandchildren, Randy Byrd, Brandi Byrd, Jacob (Haley) Flinchum, Garrett Flinchum, Marissa Johnson, Cody (Olivia) Byrd, Rev. Levi (Elizabeth) Byrd; ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents Mr. Byrd was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Baker. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Midkiff Cemetery with service conducted by Rev. Levi Byrd. The family will receive friends on Tuesday morning from 9:30 AM until the time to leave for the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
