In Loving Memory of David Eugene Bennett
David Eugene Bennett, age 47 of Christiansburg VA passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 19 2026, at The Joan and Howard Woltz hospice home in Dobson, surrounded by family. He was born on July 4, 1979, in Akron, Ohio. David was preceded in death by his sister Heather Lynn Bennett. His grandparents, John William Lahee, Hazel Lahee, Anna Jane Bennett and Paul Eugene Bennett.
David was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He shared a special bond with his pastor, Bob Goldstein, who faithfully visited David, offering prayers, encouragement, and spiritual guidance. Their time together brought David comfort and strength, and his family will always be grateful for the love and support Pastor Bob showed him.
At a younger age, David enjoyed practicing Tae Kwon Do alongside his dad, creating memories they would cherish. He also loved fishing and was blessed to take his nephew, Grant, on his first fishing trip. David watched with joy and excitement as Grant caught his very first fish—a special memory that will always be treasured.
David’s true passion, however, was sports—not necessarily playing them, but knowing everything there was to know about them. He was a walking sportscaster! If you had a question about a team, a player, a statistic, or anything sports-related, chances were David already knew the answer. His incredible knowledge and enthusiasm for sports were a special part of who he was.
David was always a sharp dresser. He loved fashion and had a passion for muscle cars. Put those two loves together, and you had quite a firecracker!
David never knew a stranger. He had a big heart and was always willing to give to others, even if it meant giving his last dollar. He loved his family dearly and treasured family gatherings. He would often speak with great pride and say, “We are the Bennett family. We may be small in number, but we are mighty in spirit!”
David worked for The Law Office of John P. Frye in Roanoke, VA as a financial debt collector, where he became known as one of the most successful agents in collections. His excellent communication skills and ability to build a genuine rapport with his clients made him especially successful in his work.
To know David was to love David—just as he was. He was uniquely himself, and his presence brought a special light to the lives of those around him.
David is survived by his father, Steven Bennett and wife Tammy Bennett of Mount Airy, North Carolina; his mother, Beverly Lahee of Tell City, Indiana; his sister, Mary Evans; and his nephew, Grant Evans, both of Tell City, Indiana. He leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will forever cherish his memory.
