Deborah Joan (Needham) Key

Deborah Joan Needham Key, age 73 of Mount Airy, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Northern Regional Hospital.  Ms. Key was born on September 10, 1949, in Surry County, to the late Paul and Martha Davis Needham.  Deborah was a devoted and loving mother to her two sons. She lost her eldest son Gabriel Wayne Key on June 1, 1999.  She fought and survived cancer three times. She is survived by her youngest son Jayme Landon Key and his fiancée of over 10 years, Susanna Hull, her sisters and brothers-in-law,  Patricia Needham Bullington and husband, Fred, Paulette Needham Welborn and husband Pete; brother, Phillip Needham; and a half-brother, Alton Needham.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that will miss her.  Deborah completed nursing school in 1983 and worked as a Registered Nurse at Wake Medical Operating Room in Raleigh, North Carolina for over six years.  She furthered her career working at different specialty Medical Offices. She retired in 2016 and moved back to Mount Airy from Cary, North Carolina to be closer to family.  She loved reading, especially Tess Garritsen, watching Star Trek, and making people happy.  She made the most amazing mashed potatoes and deviled eggs. She made our Sunday game days absolutely full of joy.  She always had the best luck playing the monopoly card game and UNO. We can’t believe you’re really gone but you will never be forgotten.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Moody Funeral Home from 2:00 PM until 4:00PM.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
