Dennis Neal Thompson

Mr. Dennis Neal Thompson, age 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday evening October 5, 2023, at Novant Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem.  He was born on May 26, 1939, in Forsyth County to the late Neal and Isla Gray Trotter Thompson.  Dennis was Surry County Manager from 1985 until 2003. Among his loves were his family, friends, reading, opera, nature, and writing poetry.  Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Miriam Amanda Thompson; grandsons, Derek White and Logan Jessup; and great-grandson, Leif White.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by wife, Mary Evelyn Thompson, and a sister, Mattie Thompson Evans.  Mr. Thompson’s wishes were to have a small family private graveside service.  Memorial donations may be made to the Pilot Mountain Rescue Squad and EMS Inc., PO Box 743, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041.
