Mr. Don Joseph Johnson, 86, of Mount Airy, passed away Monday morning, July 14, 2025, at Central Continuing Care. Mr. Johnson was born May 27, 1939, in Surry County, the son of the late James Joseph and Sadie Juanita Goins Johnson. Don spent much of his life working as a self-employed painter. For over 50 years, he built a reputation across the Surry County area for his skill, honesty, and attention to detail. Whether it was a family home, a small business, or a fresh coat to mark a new beginning, Don took pride in every job, treating each one with care and respect. He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah Kay and Anthony Haynes and Shirley Ann Baker; his grandchildren, Joann Williams Hohl, Justin and Allyson Williams, and James Lineback; a grandson-in-law, Michael Hohl; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Hohl and Sutton Williams; and lifelong friends, Archie and Sally Jean Beverly. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Ima Lee Lowe Johnson; a granddaughter, Anita Kay Hamlin; and a sister, Shirley Johnson France. In keeping with his wishes, no formal visitation or service will be held. Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Johnson family.
