Donald Wayne "Donnie" Kirkman

Mr. Donald Wayne “Donnie” Kirkman, age 75, of King, NC, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at Cone Health Moses Cone Hospital. He was born in Surry County, December 27, 1948, the son of the late Lassie and Caroline Boyles Kirkman. Mr. Kirkman graduated from Mount Airy High School where he excelled in football and basketball. He was retired after 35 years as a successful shoe salesman for Harris Cuthrell and Propet Shoe Companies and was also co-owner of C & D Sporting Goods of Mount Airy. Donnie never met a stranger and enjoyed golf, traveling, music, and shagging. Most of all he enjoyed time with his family and so many wonderful friends. Our family is so thankful for all the love and support so many of you have shown to us. We were blessed that God chose us to be part of this extraordinary man’s life. Surviving is his daughter, Buffie Kirkman, stepdaughter Stephanie Hall and husband Ray Hall; grandchildren, Brandy Rhodes and husband, Brandon, Cody Hall and his wife, Kayla, great grandchildren, Rylee Rhodes, and Reese Rhodes; sisters and brother-in-law, Kathy and Rodney George, Carol K. Powell; twin brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Sue Kirkman; many nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Holder Kirkman, and brother, Larry Kirkman. A graveside memorial service will be held at Oakdale Cemetery of Mount Airy on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at 10:00 AM with Dr. Jon Cawley officiating. No formal visitation will be held however the family will be gathering at Carol’s home, 120 Farmbrook Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 16^th Floor, New York, New York 10001.Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
