Donald Ray
Snow
Apr 30, 1944 — Sep 11, 2026
Donald Ray “Don” Snow, 82, passed away on September 11, 2026.
Don was born April 30, 1944, the youngest child of Romie Snow and Blanche Olivia Eads Snow. He grew up in Surry County on his family’s Double Creek farm, located on what is now Romie Snow Road. That community remained his home for most of his life.
Don worked at various jobs throughout the Surry County and Winston-Salem areas before beginning a long career with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, from which he retired.
More important than what Don did for a living was the way he treated people. He genuinely enjoyed getting to know others, and he never seemed to meet a stranger.
Don also loved coaching and working with young people. He helped grow the basketball program at Copeland Elementary from four teams into something much larger, giving many children an opportunity to play. He also coached the Dodgers baseball team and had a lasting influence on generations of young athletes and their families.
Don married his longtime friend, Brenda Kay Gillespie Venable, on November 9, 2002. They shared their lives together until her passing in January 2023.
He is survived by his son, Adrian Snow, and wife Gina; his granddaughter, Macy Snow; step-sons, Christopher, Dwayne and Scott Venable as well as many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Brenda, Don was preceded in death by his siblings, Claude Snow, Carl Snow, Lucille Snow Dockery, Mary Magdalene Snow, Johnny Snow, Roy Snow, Jack Snow, Rufus “Junior” Stanley and Paul Stanley.
Don will be remembered for his love of people, his gift for friendship, his dedication to young people, his tomatoes and barbecue, and the countless lives he touched along the way.
