Ms. Doris Lee Thore Fawcett, age 92, of Mount Airy, NC passed away June 8, 2025. Ms. Fawcett was born in Surry County, NC on February 25, 1933, to the late Geneva Wilson Thore and Claude W. Thore. She grew up and helped work on the family farm in the Beulah Community. She graduated from Beulah High School in 1951, where she was the co-president and co-salutatorian of her class. She was an outstanding basketball player at Beulah High School. Ms. Fawcett enjoyed playing the piano and organ, playing bridge, reading, and traveling. When her oldest son, Bud lived on the West Coast, she visited him many times in Santa Barbara, CA, Lake Tahoe, CA, and Portland, Oregon. In 2002 she spent two weeks with Bud and his family when they were living in Switzerland. In 2000 she spent two weeks in Venice, Italy with friends. Doris enjoyed college basketball and football. She was a big fan of the University of North Carolina Basketball Team, where her oldest son Bud graduated (UNC-Chapel Hill). She was also an avid fan of the NC State Football Team, as her youngest son, Len, graduated from NC State would carry her to lots of the football games. Hers was the “House Divided”. In 1965, Doris started to work in the bank, she went through three bank mergers, retired in 1995 from BB&T as Assistant Vice President, after 30 years of service. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Surviving her are two sons, Thomas Garnet (Bud) Fawcett, III of Oregon and George Lenfesty (Len) Fawcett of Mount Airy, NC; her two beloved granddaughters, Lila Inez Marshall Fawcett and Raina Lee Marshall Fawcett; her sister, Patricia Thore Cooke (Steve); and two nieces, Angie Bowman and Renee Price (Randy). She is also survived by a host of relatives and friends. Ms. Fawcett’s family would like to give a special thanks to Donnie Riggs of Liberty Home Health Care for the care and service provided. The family also sends a special thanks to The Mount Airy Police Department and Mount Airy Fire Department for their care and concern. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. A memorial service will be held June 28, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Trinity Episcopal Church with services being conducted by Rev. Sarah Morris. The family will receive friends after the service in the fellowship hall. Moody Funeral Services of Mount Airy is serving the family.
