Miss Doris Miriam Grymes, 94, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday night, June 22, 2023, at Central Continuing Care. Miss Grymes was born November 10, 1928, in Shelby County, TN, to the late Eldridge Phipps and Sarah Woods Grymes. Miriam was reared in Fulton, KY. She worked as a government service civilian in Salisbury and Winston-Salem, from which she retired and moved to Mount Airy in 1991. She loved performing arts and kept a collection of all the plays she had attended. Her interests also included crafting, old movies, reading, and volunteering at the library. She is survived by her niece, Sara Catherine “Cathy” Wilmoth and her husband, Dennis, of Dobson; her nephews, Robert Daniel “Dan” Grymes and his wife, Pattie Cartwright, of Chesapeake, VA, and William Irvin “Bill” and Christa Grymes of Pinehurst; her great-nephews and great-nieces, Matthew and Sarah Easter, Jordan and Marianne Wilmoth, Lucas Wilmoth, Jake Grymes, Landry and Hannah Grymes, Amos and Abby Wilmoth, Zac Cartwright and his fiancée, Meghan Puryear, and Macy Grymes; her great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces, Owen Easter, Whitaker Wilmoth, Pearl Anna Wilmoth, and Nora Wilmoth; and a special friend, MaryAnn Lee. In addition to her parents, Miss Grymes was preceded in death by her twin brother and sister-in-law, Dr. William Lloyd and Cary Herbert Grymes. A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Skyline Memory Gardens, with the Rev. Austin Caviness officiating. No formal visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1427 Edgewood Drive, Suite 101, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
