Mrs. Doris (MaMa) Evelyn Mears McMillian, age 87, of Mount Airy, passed away at her residence on Sunday, July 19, 2026, surrounded by the ones she loved. She was born in Surry County, North Carolina on February 7, 1939, to the late Raymond and Clara Ring Mears. She worked as the secretary for the plant manager at Quality Mills for over 25 years. She and her husband owned and operated Garson McMillian Real Estate and Auction Company Inc. for over 60 years, where she was a Licensed Real Estate Broker in North Carolina and Virginia, as well as a Licensed Real Estate Appraiser. Doris and Garson McMillian devoted their life’s work to their real estate and auction company, working alongside their three children. She loved and enjoyed serving the people of her community and was proud to call them both friends and family. Above all, she was a loving wife, sister, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed by those who were blessed to know her. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McMillian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Garson McMillian; son, Gilbert McMillian and brother Ralph Mears. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Monty Simpson; son and daughter-in-law, Manus and Deanna McMillian; daughter-in-law, Deborah McMillian; grandchildren, Caroline McMillian, Samantha and Matthew Kunz, Sidney and Falisaty Simpson, Stephanie and Tanner Hodgin, Carlie and Jeremy Clingenpeel, and Cassell McMillian; great-grandchildren; Jayle Bryant, Maggie Kunz, Hallie Kunz, Colby Hodgin, Alexander John Kunz (on the way), and Lola James Clingenpeel (on the way); sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Jimmy Spencer, Frances and Roger Collins as well as many special nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 3:00 PM at Moody’s Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with service conducted by Rev. David Sechrist. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday afternoon from 12:30 PM until the time for the service at the funeral home.
