Doris Jean Haley Poore

Mrs. Doris Jean Haley Poore, 80, of Mt. Airy passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem. She was born in Patrick County, VA on October 7, 1934 to the late Archie and Ella Greenwood Haley. Mrs. Poore was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was known as nanny to those who knew and loved her. Doris was a volunteer for Mountain Valley Hospice in the prayer shawl ministry group. She made many beautiful shawls and lap robes for the hospice patients. She is survived by her husband, James Poore, Sr.; a daughter and son-in-law, Kim McDowell and Jerry; a son and daughter-in-law, James "Jimmy" Poore, Jr. and Mitzi; grandchildren and spouses, Shannon Mayer and Bill, Whitney Golding and Chad, Meagan Poore, and Abby Poore; great grandchildren, Sophia Mayer, Katy Mayer, Bristol Golding, and Bryson Golding; step great grandchildren, Will Mayer, Zach Mayer, and Brad Mayer; a sister, Pearl Poole. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poore was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Haley and a brother-in-law, Norwood Poole. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 3:00 PM at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Hager, the Rev. Chris Dotson and the Rev. Alex Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1:00 PM until time for the service at the church.
