Mrs. Dorothy Mae Redman Chilton, 91, of 1077 Ararat Road, Pilot Mountain, passed away Saturday morning, August 18, 2012, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Chilton was born September 16, 1920, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Joseph Franklin "Joe" and Edna Alice Moss Redman. Dorothy retired as a sales clerk from J.C. Penney after 22 years of service and was a member of Simmons Grove Baptist Church. She proudly earned her GED from Surry Community College at the age of 78. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Anne Chilton of Pilot Mountain; three grandchildren and their spouses, Sharon and Brian Moser, Becky and the Rev. Jeff Stephens, and Tim and Mindy Chilton, all of Pilot Mountain; two great-grandchildren, Sarah Stephens and Maria Chilton, both of Pilot Mountain; and a brother and sister-in-law, Joe Allen and Melanie Redman of Walkertown. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chilton was preceded in death by her husband, James Cabot Chilton; a sister, Hazel Redman Key; and a brother, Howard Redman. The funeral service will be held Monday, August 20, 2012, at 3:00 PM at Simmons Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Stewart R. Mauck, the Rev. Johnson Gupton, and the Rev. Jeff Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service. The family may also be contacted at the home of Kenneth and Anne Chilton, 1103 Ararat Road, Pilot Mountain. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Judy Willard for the loving and compassionate care she provided and for becoming a part of the Chilton family.
