Dorothy Epperson George

Mrs. Dorothy Epperson George, age 96 of Ararat, VA, widow of Mr. Ray Aldie George passed away Monday, January 26, 2015 at her home with her loving family. Mrs. George was born in Patrick County on February 26, 1918 to the late Samuel and Julia Anderson Epperson. Mrs. George was retired from the Patrick School System with 42 years of service as an Elementary Teacher. She began her career in a one room school house in Ararat, VA., teaching many of her first and second cousins. She was a member of Unity Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Patrick County Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. George loved the outdoors and the animals, working in her vegetable and flower gardens that she shared with her family and friends. Surviving is her son and daughter-in-law Billy Ray and Cleo George of Ararat, VA., two grandsons Kevin Ray George and his wife Candie of Clarksville, VA. and Kirk Allen George of Ararat, VA., two great grandchildren Slate George and Ella George and two sisters-in-law Edith Epperson of Westfield and Mia Epperson of Claudville. In addition to her parents and her husband Mrs. George was preceded in death by six sisters Ola Radford, Irene Terry, Lillian Turman, Margie Culler, Annice Collins and Lucille Stanley and by three brothers Curtis Epperson, Herbert Epperson and Hobart Epperson. Funeral services will be held Thursday January 29, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Unity Church in Ararat, VA. with services conducted by Rev. Buford Jessup and Rev. Bill Rountree with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night 6 to 8 P.M. at the Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Unity Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Patricia Anderson 358 Mears Rd.
