Dorothy Rose Strickland Hudson

Dorothy Rose Strickland Hudson (Dot), 94, died peacefully on Friday, June 1, 2012 at Central Continuing Care of Mt. Airy, NC. She was born December 10, 1917 in Mullins, SC, the daughter of the late Charles Harris and Mae Belle Braswell Strickland. Dot graduated from Mullins High School. In 1943 she married her beloved husband, Byron McRoy Hudson. She spent most of her married life in Charlotte, NC, where she worked as an accountant for Wrenn Brothers Incorporated. She and Byron retired to Mount Airy in 1977. Dot loved children and spent many years teaching Sunday school and Bible school at Oak Grove Baptist Church. Loved by many for her kindness, generosity, and faithfulness, she enjoyed helping others who were in need. Many will remember the way she smiled and said, "I love you." She is predeceased by her father, mother, her husband; son, John Michael Hudson; and grandson, Brett Byron Hudson. Also, brothers, Edward Carol White, Thomas Minchell White, Malcolm Earl White, W.J. White, and C.H. Strickland; sisters, Mabel Elizabeth White Lane, Charlie Mae Strickland Freeman, and Clarice Strickland Lane. Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Phyllis Hudson Ballance of Winston-Salem, two sons, Byron Hudson of Gastonia and Craig Hudson of Charlotte, as well as eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and great-nieces, and numerous nephews and great-nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to Barbara Bandy, Chester McMillian, and the staff at Central Continuing Care. The visitation, service, and burial will take place on Monday, June 4, 2012 at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mount Airy. The visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., followed by the service with Pastor Alton S. Bledsoe officiating. Burial will take place following the service.
