Douglas Lee Owens

Mr. Douglas Lee Owens, age 20, of Stuart, Virginia passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 11, 2023, doing what he loved to do best with his brother and his friends. He was born in Eden, North Carolina on October 25, 2002, to Ronnie Lee Owens, Jr., and Jessica Renea Lawson Owens. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ronnie Owens, Sr., maternal grandfather, C. Douglas Lawson, maternal great-grandparents, Coy and Mabel Rakes, and maternal great-grandparents, Claude and Ruth Lawson. Douglas was selfless, always putting others before himself. He was a complete joy to be around and often brought a smile to everyone’s face. He was respectful, loved fiercely, had a contagious smile, and loved all his family and extended family. Douglas loved anything that had a motor in it. He loved to sing and was just a good “old soul”, never wanting to see anyone hurt or upset. Above all, Douglas had a strong faith in Jesus Christ who now is his heavenly father. Douglas will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. To know him was to love him.

Left to cherish the special memories of Douglas Owens are his beloved parents, Ronnie Lee Owens, Jr., and Jessica Renea Lawson Owens of the home; three sisters, Jessica Purdy (Justin) of Mayodan, North Carolina, Brittany Clifton (Andrew) of Stuart, Virginia, Hanna Owens of Stuart, Virginia; two brothers, Christopher Tyler Presnell (Abi) of Ridgeway, Virginia, Christian Owens of Stuart, Virginia; special nieces and nephews, Brian Purdy, Christine Purdy, Drew Clifton, Malachi Clifton, Trinity Clifton; grandparents, Fran Owens of Pulaski, Virginia, Jimmy and Mary Rea of Bassett, Virginia, Tim and Norma Goard of Stuart, Virginia; special uncle, Dwain Lawson (Sandra); special cousins, McKayla Lawson, Aaron Lawson, Nick Owens, Cheyenne Owens; several other great aunts, uncles, cousins, and many special friends that were like his brothers and sisters.

A funeral service for Douglas Owens will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart. The burial will immediately follow the funeral service in Patrick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening, August 16, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations in memory of Douglas may be made to an organization of the donor’s choice.
