Obituary

Mrs. Dovie Mae McAdams, age 54 of Ararat, VA passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026. She was born in Patrick County on November 8, 1971, to Davis Walter Lawson and Virginia Bessie Martin Lawson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, David McAdams, and her former husband, Randy Niten; three sisters, Bonnie Turner, Katie Burgart, Lennis Kendrick; mother-in-law, Barbara Niten; father-in-law, William Niten; sister-in-law, Lisa Speas.

Dovie is survived by two daughters, Miranda Tate (Brandon) and Virginia Niten; one son, James Niten (Ashley); two stepsons, Robert McAdams (fiancé Jennifer Hunley) and Steven McAdams; honorary son, Jacob Speas (Jasmine Bowman); seven grandchildren, Bethany Tate, Colton Tate, Logan Niten, Marleigh Niten, Magdaline Niten, Brody McAdams, and Leila Speas; four brothers, Daniel Lawson, CJ Lawson, CL Lawson, Bennie Lawson (Gayle); numerous nieces and nephews and special friends, Melanie Collins, Ray Cox, and Michelle Landers.

A funeral service for Dovie will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Chapel in Mt. Airy, NC with Pastor Tommy Vass and Rev. Sidney Turner officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A burial will follow at 1:00 PM, Friday, September 18, 2026 at Lawson Family Cemetery, Iron Bridge Road, Woolwine, VA with Gary Storms officiating.
