After his medical discharge, Duane, who loved to cook, attended culinary classes at MATC. He then became an expert machinist in Wisconsin and due to his unique skill set, was transferred to Virginia when his company relocated. Duane was married to Rebecca Haro from 1969-1980. He married Lynn Blackwood in Milwaukee, WI, on October 8, 1983.

Duane is survived by his son, Chad (Wendi) Mattheisen of Oak Forest, IL, daughter Kelly (Kevin) Wagner of Gallatin, TN; two grandsons, Nathan and Noah of Gallatin, TN; and a brother, Mark (Barb) of Milwaukee, WI.

Duane came to know the Truth and was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness May 25, 1975. Through his spiritual leadership, he was also the father and grandfather to many, including daughter Roxanne (Armando) Ponce of Griffith, IN; daughter Lisa (Barry) Medill of Colgate, WI; daughter Chris Zalesky of Milwaukee, WI; son Joshua (Naarah) Leghorn and daughter Elliangela (David) Alfonso of Martinsville, VA; daughter Lisa (Brandon) Lane of Crouse, NC; as well as grandchildren Eustacio, Julian, and Julie; Jesse and Joshua; Skyla “Neita” and Mateo; and Miranda, to name just a few.
