Duane Allan Mattheisen passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the age of 75.
He was born in Marshfield, Wisconsin, on October 13,1949, the son of Anfana ‘Andy’ and Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Mattheisen, and 4 years later, the brother to Mark. After high school, Duane enlisted in the Navy, and was stationed in Pensacola, FL, at which time he was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes, a condition that he successfully managed the remainder of his life.
After his medical discharge, Duane, who loved to cook, attended culinary classes at MATC. He then became an expert machinist in Wisconsin and due to his unique skill set, was transferred to Virginia when his company relocated. Duane loved the country, summers on his family’s farm, fishing, and most of all, cheese curds and breakfast outings for pancakes with loved ones.
Duane was married to Rebecca Haro from 1969-1980. He married Lynn Blackwood in Milwaukee, WI, on October 8, 1983.
Duane is survived by his son, Chad (Wendi) Mattheisen of Oak Forest, IL, daughter Kelly (Kevin) Wagner of Gallatin, TN; two grandsons, Nathan and Noah of Gallatin, TN; and a brother, Mark (Barb) of Milwaukee, WI.
Duane came to know the Truth and was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness May 25, 1975. Through his spiritual leadership, he was also the father and grandfather to many, including daughter Roxanne (Armando) Ponce of Griffith, IN; daughter Lisa (Barry) Medill of Colgate, WI; daughter Chris Zalesky of Milwaukee, WI; son Joshua (Naarah) Leghorn and daughter Elliangela (David) Alfonso of Martinsville, VA; daughter Lisa (Brandon) Lane of Crouse, NC; as well as grandchildren Eustacio, Julian, and Julie; Jesse and Joshua; Skyla “Neita” and Mateo; and Miranda, to name just a few.
Duane was preceded in death by his wife, Lynn Mattheisen, and his parents.
A memorial service will be held for Duane at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 107 Governors, Lane, Martinsville, for congregants and family members on December 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM EST. Moody’s Funeral Home in Stuart, VA will offer remembrance cards and a memorial guestbook for visitors to provide respects through December 15th, 2024.
