Dwight Garfield Blizzard

Dwight Garfield Blizzard, age 57, of Mount Airy, died May 28, 2017. Dwight was born in Surry County on April 11, 1960, to Garnet and Mary Sawyers Blizard. He was employed as a Shipping Supervisor at ALTEC Industries. He considered the entire company of ALTEC Industries and his fellow co-workers to be a true blessing to his life. Dwight will be remembered for his friendliness, faith, positive attitude during this journey, and love for his family. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church and was thankful to worship the Lord with the church family that made him and Tammy feel so welcomed. He also enjoyed visiting and being a part of The Lake Church at White Lake, NC. He is survived by his faithful, loving wife of 33 years, Tammy Large Blizzard; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Catherine and Major James Anderson and their children, Jeb and Landry Anderson of Weiden, Germany (they are anxiously awaiting a third baby Anderson in December!); a son and daughter-in-law, Jacob Dwight and Nickee Collins Blizzard and their son, Asher Hudson Blizzard of Mount Airy; and a son, Jackson Andrew Blizzard of Raleigh. He is also survived by sisters, Dianne Blizard Pendleton and husband, Morriss of King; and Donna Blizard Pearson and husband Jeffrey of Mount Airy; a brother, Douglas James Blizard of Clearwater, FL; his very special mother-in-law, Sylvia Barnard Large of Ararat, VA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Samuel and Pamela Pomrenke Large of Mount Airy, Jonathan and Joy Moore Large of Ararat, VA; and Christopher and Mindy Morris Large of Lowgap; six nieces and five nephews. In addition to his parents, Dwight was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Roy Large and a nephew, Jeffrey Matthew Pearson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, June 2, 2017 at Highland Park Baptist Church by Dr. Darrell Tate, Rev. Keith Woods and Rev. Cameron McGill. Burial will follow in Barnard Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Friday beginning at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland Park Baptist Church 1325 Grove Lane, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family wishes to thank a very special niece, Amy Pendleton Wyscarver, who provided not only medical knowledge, but also spiritual guidance.
