Earl Ray Shelton

Mr. Earl Ray Shelton, 74 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Monday morning September 1, 2025, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. He was born October 22, 1950, in Surry County to the late Rev. Bernie Ellis Shelton and Ruth Ella Key Shelton. He was a retirement planner for many years. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 47 years, Lynn Blackburn Shelton; daughter, Dawn Shelton; grandson, Shelton Rook; two sisters, Rachel Shelton Jackson and Brenda Shelton Cooke; a brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Shelton and special friend Bonita Smoot; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers-in-law, Sylvia Faye Shelton Money and Arvil Levi “Bud” Money, and Lonnie Otto Jackson; a sister-in-law, Debra Sue “Debbie” Culler Shelton; and by a niece, Pamela Starr Jackson Saunders. Per Earl’s request, all services are private. The family would like to give a special thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all of the love, care, and support given to Earl and the family during his illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, PO Box 325, Dobson, NC; Calvary Baptist Church, 314 S.
