Mr. Edgar Hampton Draughn, Sr., 80, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday night, December 6, 2013, at his home. Mr. Draughn was born August 1, 1933, in Surry County, the son of the late Charlie Martin and Lillian Kidd Draughn. Edgar served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Sherman Simpson Construction Company for many years, and he later retired from Insteel Wire Products. Mr. Draughn was a member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anne Stevens Draughn of the home; a son, Edgar Hampton "Eddie" Draughn, Jr. of Winston-Salem; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathryne and Grover "Pete" Jenkins of Mount Airy; four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Ruth Reeves Draughn and Linda Stevens Goins, both of Mount Airy, Jimmy and Gale Stevens of High Point, and Wayland and Pauline Stevens of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Draughn was preceded in death by his stepfather, Lester Goodson; and two brothers, Martin Junior "Joe" Draughn and Roland Hoover "Bill" Draughn. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at 1:00 PM at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert McCrary and the Rev. Kermit Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Haymore Memorial Baptist Church Choir Fund, P.O. Box 27, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
