Mrs. Edith Marie Atkinson Beck, 79, of Mount Airy, passed away Thursday morning, May 21, 2026, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Beck was born March 15, 1947, in Guilford County, one of ten children born to the late Herman Ben and Betty Alice Beamer Atkinson. Edith grew up in High Falls and graduated from High Falls High School in 1965. A devoted and hardworking lady, Edith faithfully served for many years as cafeteria manager with Mount Airy City Schools, where she touched countless lives with her warm spirit and caring heart. She was also a faithful member of Mount Bethel Moravian Church. Edith truly lived life to the fullest. She never met a stranger, loved to laugh, and could light up any room with her joyful personality. Whether dancing the twist, listening to Elvis, or singing along to her favorite gospel songs, she embraced every moment with enthusiasm and love. Her faith in the Lord was steadfast, and her love for her family was the joy of her life. She was especially proud of her daughters and deeply cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who affectionately knew her love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Melissa and Kelly Hiatt and Valerie and Mitchell Faw; her grandchildren, Kelsey and Bradford Perley, Ross and Kayla Hiatt, Dylan Faw and Brooke Holder, and Kaylan and Cole Easter; her great-grandchildren, Kara Hiatt, Evelyn Perley, Kassandra Hiatt, Meredith Perley, Reese Hiatt, and Grayson Holder; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy Busick, Nancy and Dale Jester, Pam Hutchens, and Karen and Ricky Lovelace; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Dwight Atkinson, Kent and Rhonda Atkinson, Leon and Jennifer Atkinson, Neal and Susan Atkinson, and Belinda Atkinson; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special aunt, Sylvia Beamer Forsyth. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Beck was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Edward Beck; and a brother, Gerald Atkinson. A service of worship and celebration of Edith’s life will be held Monday, May 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Dr. Darrell Tate and Bruce Ayers, Provincial Acolyte, officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Bethel Moravian Church Graveyard. The family will receive friends on Monday from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children’s Center of Northwest North Carolina, P.O. Box 692, Dobson, NC 27017.
