Mrs. Edith Sylvia Jarrell Hicks, 91, of 1604 East Fairfield Drive, Mount Airy, went to be with the Lord early Wednesday morning, June 3, 2015, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Hicks was born September 22, 1923, in Surry County, one of eleven children born to the late Benjamin Franklin and Susan Amburn Jarrell. Edith was a homemaker and a member of the Christian faith. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Beverly and Jerry Beverly and Kathe and Teddy Beaver, all of Mount Airy, and Sylvia "Sibby" Hicks of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, William Alfred "Billy" Hicks, Jr. and Lu Ann Hicks, Mark and Margaret Hicks, and Tony and Kristine Hicks, all of Mount Airy; fourteen grandchildren and their spouses, Lisa and Kenny Bryant, Janene Clement, Kent and Amy Beverly, Velvet Tucker, Krystal and Shawn Jones, Shawn and Stephanie Beaver, Billy and Emily Hicks, Kristy and Steve Kelley, Kayla Hicks, Mark Hicks, Jr. and Rachael Hicks, Brea and Will Hull, T.J. and Olivia Hicks, Benji Hicks, and Katie Hicks; seventeen great-grandchildren, Justin Bryant, Will Bryant, Jenna Clement, Ashley Clement, Jarred Beverly, Samantha Beverly, Kendal Tucker, Karsyn Tucker, Vincent Jones, Bethany Hicks, Shayna Hicks, Damien Kelley, T.J. Waid, Salem Hicks, Blaze Hicks, Carter Hull, and Camden Hull; two great-grandchildren "on the way;" and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, William Alfred "Bill" Hicks, Sr.; four sisters, Togie McGee, Ida Gentry, Julie Lyons, and Clara Jarrell; and six brothers, Oscar Jarrell, Fred Jarrell, Tommy Jarrell, Zeb Jarrell, George Jarrell, and Earlie Jarrell. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 5, 2015, at 3:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Buford Jessup and James Jessup officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to a multitude of special friends which Edith treasured throughout her life.
