Edith Dowell Joyce

Mrs. Edith Dowell Joyce, 85, of 715 Mulberry Road, Martinsville, VA, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2006, at Blue Ridge Manor in Martinsville, VA. Mrs. Joyce was born October 9, 1920, in Surry County, to the late Ambrose and Lessie Deatherage Dowell. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Airy. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond "Ray" and Esperanza Joyce of Corpus Christi, TX; three grandchildren and spouses, Daniel and Elvia Joyce and Jennifer and Scott Johnson, all of Houston, TX, and Leslie Ann Joyce of Parkville, MD; four great grandchildren, Arine Joyce, Kimberly Cho, Hunter Johnson, and Taylor Johnson, all of Houston, TX; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Opal Marion of Winston-Salem, Nancy and Al Adams of Greensboro, Carolyn Churchill of Williamsburg, VA, and Thelma Dowell of Mount Airy; and five brothers and three sisters-in-law, Charles and Mary Dowell, Jim and Carole Dowell, Harry and Bobbie Dowell, Jack Dowell, and A.L. Dowell, Jr., all of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Joyce; two sisters, Patricia Dowell Terrell and Betty Dowell Neese; and three brothers, Roscoe Dowell, Byron Dowell, and Leo Dowell. The funeral service will be held Friday, September 15, 2006, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by Mrs. Carole Dowell, and entombment will be in the Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, and other times at the home of Thelma Dowell, 326 Council Street, Mount Airy.
