Edith B. Stutt

Mrs. Edith B. Stutt, 81, of Ararat, VA, departed this life Sunday, June 15, 2014. Born July 1, 1932, in Pittsburgh, PA, she worked in real estate and as a nursing home activities director before she moved to Ararat, VA, in 1994, with her husband, Jim. She then worked at Lowe's Foods in Mount Airy until she finally retired in 2007. She was predeceased by a son, Bobby Ball; and her husband, James P. Stutt. Edith is survived by a daughter, Paula Myler and her husband, Bob, of St. Louis, MO; a daughter, Michelle DeLeo and her husband, Don, of Pittsburgh, PA; and a daughter, Karen Corbett and her husband, Chris, of Ararat, VA. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Emily Wood, B.J. Myler, Grace Hiscox, Erica Cipko, Alex Cipko, Christopher DeLeo, and Olivia DeLeo; and nine great-grandchildren, Josh Wood, Jack Wood, Sam Wood, Frank Wood, Lindsay Wood, Raymond Myler, Katelyn Myler, Hannah Hiscox, and Kiera Cipko. Edith was a firm friend to and advocate for all things furred and feathered, including cats, dogs, ducks, chickens, cockatiels, cows, squirrels, and wild birds. In Edith's view, if St. Francis of Assisi were born later, he would have been a Presbyterian, as was Edith. The Fellowship Church of Ararat provided a wonderful church home for Edith and her family, and she was a longtime member of the Worship Committee. She also volunteered often and well for the Patrick County Band Boosters and the Dan River Park Association. Her best friend, Judy Jackson, and the Reverend Monte Mitchell and Jennifer Mitchell provided invaluable support and friendship before and after Edith's diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 6:00 PM, with a meal after the service provided by The Fellowship Church, 5101 Ararat Highway, Ararat, VA. Edith's family will greet friends one hour before the service at the church. Edith's family suggests that donations be made in her memory to The Fellowship Church, P.O. Box 80, Ararat, VA 24053; or the Dan River Park, c/o Raina Brim, Treasurer, 146 Brim Road, Ararat, VA 24053. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
