Mrs. Edith Mae "Pete" Davis Wood, 87, widow of Mr. Archie Wood, of Dobson passed away peacefully on Tuesday May 20, 2008 at Northern Hospital of Surry County with her loving family by her side. She was born in Surry County on June 7, 1920 to the late Israel and Elizabeth Rebecca Simpson Davis. She was a faithful member of Salem Baptist Church as long as her health permitted and was formerly employed by Perry Manufacturing. After her retirement, she dedicated her life to caring for her husband of 48 years until his death in 1985. A loving mother, grandmother and friend Mrs. Wood leaves to cherish her memory a daughter and son-in-law Jo Ann and David Cockerham of Dobson; a special granddaughter Tonda Tyndall and husband--Allen of King. She was blessed with a family who gave unselfishly of themselves and totally dedicated themselves to her care and thoroughly enjoyed every minute spent with her. More than family, they were caregivers, supporters, but most of all "best friends". Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and many special friends. In addition to her beloved husband, Archie and her parents, Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by a daughter Betty Jean W. Chipman Bell; a grandson Dale Chipman; four sisters, Ada Holder, Mamie Holder, Gracie Perkins and Barbara Simpson; two brothers, Tom Davis and Warren Davis. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 pm at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Lewis and Rev. George Jones, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at Moody-Davis Funeral Home where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie-in-state thirty minutes prior to the service and other times at the home of her daughter at 835 Lakeview Drive Dobson, NC. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the special residents and friends, especially Gertrude Marion, Myrtle Sexton and their families, and staff of Golden Living Nursing Center for the compassionate love and care shown to Mrs. Wood during her stay there. Flowers will be greatly appreciated or memorials contributions may be made to Salem Baptist Church Building Fund 430 Rockford Road Dobson, NC 27017.
