Edna Mae Gentry Hamby

Mrs. Edna Mae Gentry Hamby, age 99, of Mt, Airy, passed away Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Twelve Oaks in Mt. Airy. Mrs. Hamby was born in Cherokee County on December 8, 1914 to the late Edgar Maynard and Lora Josephine Odom Gentry. Mrs. Hamby was homemaker , a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother and was also a member of White Plains Friends Meeting.. She is survived by two daughters and son-in-law Carmen Snow of Mt. Airy and Betty and John Neher of Seaford, VA, one son and daughter-in-law Harlan and Virginia S. Hamby of Newport, News, VA., five grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.. In addition to her parents Mrs. Hamby was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Harlan Hamby. A graveside service will be held Friday November 28, 2014 at 2:00 P.M at Skyline Memory Gardens with the Dr. Bruce Hodges officiating. There will be no formal visitation. The family would like to give a special thank you to Twelve Oaks Assisted Living and to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care for all the love and support given to Edna and her family and also a special thank you to June Branscome for all her loving care.
