Mrs. Edna Carrie Lawson Simmons Houck, 97, of 722 Spring Street, Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Houck was born September 18, 1913, in Ashe County, daughter of the late Charlie Edward and Florence Effie Long Lawson. She retired from Spencer's Inc. after 42 years of service and attended Mount Airy Church of God. She is survived by seven grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Semones Lawson of Mount Airy; three special great nieces, Morgan Dawson and McKenzie Dawson, both of Dobson, and Sharon Puckett of Mount Airy; a special great great niece, Kaitlyn Whitt of Mount Airy; and three special friends, John Griffith of Lowgap, Tonita Greene of Mount Airy, and Lynn Lester of Westfield. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Houck was preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Simmons; her second husband, Lonzo Houck; a daughter, Anna Lou Butler; two sons, Bob Simmons and Lowell Simmons; a sister, Madge Houck; and two brothers, Burlen Lawson and Emmitt Lawson. The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Roby Wilcox and the Rev. Robbie Sizemore officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Elizabeth Semones Lawson, 315 Circle Drive, Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
