Mr. Edsel Eugene Eggers, 85, of Mt. Airy passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014 at his home. He was born on September 27, 1928 in Boone County, WVA to the late Joseph Oliver and Minnie Clark Eggers. Mr. Eggers approached Wade Moody in the late 1950's about developing a new cemetery in Mt. Airy, and with guidance from him purchased the land to start a cemetery. He retired as one of the co- founders of Skyline Memory Gardens. Mr. Eggers also attended Flat Rock Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Pat W. Eggers of the home, a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Frank Howard of Middletown, Del., one step daughter Barbara W. and Floyd Jackson of Winston Salem, two step sons Elbert Earl Williams, III of Asheville and John Williams, Sr. of Mt. Airy, Five grandchildren, Seven step grandchildren and his mother-in-law Mattie R. Inman of Mt. Airy. In addition to his parents Mr. Eggers was preceded in death by two daughters Nancy Puckett and Susan Underwood, by one son David Eggers and by his first wife Marjorie Morris Eggers. Funeral services will be held Monday March 10, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mt. Airy with services conducted by Chaplain Justin Nelson and Dr. Jim Reeves with burial to follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens with full military rites conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post # 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post# 9436. The family will receive friends Monday from 1:00 P.M. until time for the service at Moody Funeral Home.
