Elsie Mae (Gwynn) Hiatt

Mrs. Elsie Mae Gwynn Hiatt, age 88 of Cana, Virginia passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023, at Galax Heath and Rehabilitation Center in Galax, Virginia.  Mrs. Hiatt was born September 29, 1934, in Carroll County to the late Andrew Frank and Letha Jane Hiatt Gwynn.  Elsie was a loving wife, sister, and friend.  She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.  Surviving is her sisters and brother-in-law, Julia Ann Gwynn Barr, Mamie Gwynn Smith and husband Clarence, Margaret Gwynn Coalson, Ruth Gwynn Corn; sisters-in-law, Lorretta Hiatt Love, Dot Gwynn, Mina Sue Gwynn, Dorothy Faye Gwynn, Linda Gwynn; along with several nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hiatt was preceded in death by her husband, Roby Bryant Hiatt; an infant son, Kenneth R. Hiatt, three sisters, Catherine Louise Gwynn, Brenda Kay Gwynn, Mary Gwynn Allen; three brothers, George C. Gwynn, William “Bill” Gwynn, James “Jim” Gwynn; a sister-in-law, Peggy Sue Gwynn; two brothers-in-law, Rev. Junior Corn, John Barr.  A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 14, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cana, Virginia with Reverend Israel Gwyn and Reverend Emmett Crotts officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 14, 2023, at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.  The family will receive friends at other times at the home of Julie Barr, 8137 Wards Gap Road, Cana, Virginia 24317.  Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Esther Ayers, 97 Oak Grove Trail, Cana, Virginia  24317.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy has been entrusted with the arrangements.
