Ephraim Monroe Hiatt

Mr. Ephraim Monroe “Ephie” Hiatt, 86, of Mount Airy, passed away early Thursday morning, May 30, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a battle with cancer.  Mr. Hiatt was born December 1, 1937, in Surry County, to the late David Lafayette and Ethel Puckett Hiatt.  After graduating high school, he attended Appalachian College.  He proceeded to open his own business in sales, Hiatt’s Clothing, for 50-plus years.  He loved talking and meeting new people, as he had never met a stranger.  Ephie enjoyed going to flea markets and collecting clocks of all types.  His favorite pastime was watching The Legend of Big Foot and American Pickers.   More importantly, he loved his family and his little dog, Sheldon.  He had a great love for his Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Amy Hiatt; his children, Steve Hiatt (Patricia), Ginger H. Beck, and Kelly H. Byrd and her husband, Kem; his grandchildren, Brittany and Donnie Buckley, Johnathan and Jacqueline Campbell, Austin and Sarabeth Beck, Dylan Beck, and Shannon Parker (Larry); ten great-grandchildren, and a sister, Portia Hansen.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Hiatt was preceded in death by nine siblings.   There will be no formal visitation.   A private service will be held at a later date.  The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love, care, and compassion shown by the nurses and staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.  Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
