Esley Douglas "Doug" Tipton

Mr. Esley Douglas “Doug” Tipton, 83 of Cana, VA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson surrounded by his loving and supportive family. He was born November 17, 1942, in Carroll County, VA to the late Monroe Esley Tipton and Junia “Junie” Sutphin Tipton. He retired from Radford Army Ammunition Plant in Radford, VA after 44 dedicated years. Papawee loved his grandsons more than life itself. He loved to go bike riding, fishing, shooting guns, and playing ball, and that was just a few of the many activities they would do together. He was a giver to the community and a Deacon at Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memory are two daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Bryan Kidd, and Sherry and Donnie McMillian; two grandsons, Logan Harris and Dakota Key; two sisters, Wanda King and Debbie Tipton; a brother and sister-in-law, Bayne and Marlene Tipton; his great grand pup, Torvi; and many more family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Tipton was preceded in death by a grandson, Sean Christopher Key. In going forward with Doug’s wishes, there will not be any formal services held. The Tipton family would like to give a huge thank you to the staff at Woltz Hospice Home for all of their love, care, and support during this trying time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, PO Box 325, Dobson, NC 27017. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
