Ester Anne Gunnell

Mrs. Ester Anne Gunnell, 91, of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born in Patrick County on September 29, 1922 to the late James and Carrie Nester Marshall. Mrs. Gunnell was a homemaker and was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Pauline and Melvin Ayers of Cana, VA; three sons and daughters-in-law, Vernon Gunnell of Clemmons, Elmer and Shelby Gunnell of Mt. Airy, Larry and Juanita Gunnell of Cherryville; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and one on the way; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents Mrs. Gunnell was preceded in death by her husband, William Claude Gunnell; three sisters, Sadie Pack, Eveline Webb, Ruth Gwynn; a brother, Elven Nester. A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery with Rev. Josh Hill and Rev. Mickey Cogdill officiating. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy on Thursday from 12:30 PM until the time to leave for the graveside service.
