Mrs. Ethel Virginia Lawrence Fleming age 96 of Mt. Airy, NC widow of Rev. Fred G. Fleming passed away Monday, June 20, 2011 at Central Continuing Care. She was born April 20, 1915 in Surry County, NC to the late Willis Fulton and Sarah Etta Smith Lawrence. She was a retired school teacher having taught at both Francisco Elementary and Franklin Elementary for a total of 39 years. Mrs. Fleming was a faithful and loving member of Mt. Airy Wesleyan Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her family and led by Christian examples. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Anne Fleming Vaughn and husband Haywood and Jane Fleming Cole and husband A.J., three grandchildren, Jay Cole and wife, Katie, Amy Fuller and husband Jody, and Melinda Eddins and husband, Brad, six great grandchildren, Justin Conrad Eddins, Cameron Vaughn Eddins, Jackson Cole, A.J. Cole, Kaci Lynn Fuller and Lia Jane Fuller, and several caring nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Shirley Golding, Mary Collins, Betty Johnson, the staff at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home and the staff at Central Continuing Care as well as caregivers Sandra Cornell and Kathy Ayers, for their loving and dedicated care given to Mrs. Fleming during her illness. In addition to her parents Mrs. Fleming was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Fred G. Fleming. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the Mount. Airy Wesleyan Church conducted by Rev. Richard Loman. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm at Moody Funeral Home of Mt. Airy where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Airy Wesleyan Church, 2063 South Main Street, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or flowers will be accepted.
