Mrs. Ethel Meadows Secrest "Grandmother" age 89 pf 147 Lovill Circle, Mt. Airy, NC widow of Mr. Monroe Secrest passed away Friday morning, August 25, 2006 at her home. She was born June 6, 1917 in Forsyth County to the late Ollie Ray and Laura Jane Hunter Meadows. She was retired from Spencer's Inc., was a member of Midway Baptist Church where she served as a faithful nursery worker and choir member. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Iva S. and Floyd Thompson, Carlisle, PA, two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Barbara W. Secrest, Mt. Airy, NC, Hugh and Faye G. Secrest, Dobson, NC, 7 grandchilden and spouses, Phillip and Emily Thompson, Brandon and Laurie Thompson, Ricky Secrest and fianc'e, Janice Newman, Vicki and Larry Dowell, Shannon and Michael Tolbert, Sherri and Brandon Spurlin, Marty and Lynn Secrest, 13 great grandchildren and 2 spouses, Kelly Secrest, Cara Secrest, Josh and Jill Tuttle, Kiefer Dowell, Autumn Dowell, Shane Cassell, Tyler Cassell, Caleb Spurlin, Cody Spurlin, Brittany and Josh Hawks, Hana Palencia, Tyler Yock and Jurian Yock, one great great grandchild, Riley Tuttle, a sister, Margaret Secrest, Mt. Airy, NC, a sister-in-law, Betty Meadows, Mt. Airy, NC, a half sister, Nancy Roberts, Temple, GA, a half brother, Jimmy Meadows, Atlanta, GA, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, and husband of 60 years, Mrs. Secrest was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brenda Faye Secrest, 3 sisters, Kathleen Maxcy, Mozelle Dowell and Annie Ezersky and a brother, Rev. Lee O. Meadows. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, August 28, 2006 at Midway Baptist Church conducted by Bro. Ed Parks, Bro. Mark Freeman and Rev. Harold Parker. Burial will follow In the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-9 PM Sunday night at Moody Funeral Home where her body will lie in state until taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family would like to express thanks to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially, Judy Burton and Candesia Arnold.
