Eugene Sanders Cockerham

Mr. Eugene Sanders "Gene" Cockerham, 72, of 878 Rabbit Ridge Road, Ararat, VA, passed away Friday evening, June 19, 2015, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Cockerham was born July 9, 1942, in Surry County, the only child born to the late Grady Sanders and Alice Atkinson Cockerham. Gene served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After his retirement from Mount Airy City Schools, he worked part-time at Mount Airy Saw and Mower. Gene was truly an outdoorsman and he loved riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He is survived by many special friends, who will dearly miss him. At Gene's request, his body will be cremated and there will not be a formal visitation or memorial service. His special friends would like to express their gratitude for the love and compassion shown by the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
