Evelyn Martin Hazelwood

Evelyn Martin Hazelwood, age 84 of Stuart, passed away Friday, September 25, 2026, at her home. She was born in Patrick County on January 29, 1942, to the late William Beamer Martin and Virginia Otra Roberts Martin. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hazelwood was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Hazelwood; special friend, Manard Manning; two brothers, Elbert Martin and Edward Martin; one sister, Eva Martin Cassady Thomas; and several half-brothers and half-sisters.

Mrs. Hazelwood is survived by two sisters, Ellen Fulcher and Edna Smart; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hazelwood was a lifetime educator, retiring from Patrick County High School after 35 years of service. Mrs. Hazelwood dedicated her life to improving the outcomes of those she loved. She was a mentor and motivator to her students and her family members, and she will be remembered as an inspiration by all those who knew and loved her.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, North Carolina 27017.
