Mrs. Fannie Irene Cox Nations, 87, of Dobson, passed away Friday afternoon, January 31, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Nations was born June 26, 1926, in Surry County, the daughter of the late John Edd and Lizy Heath Cox. Fannie retired from Proctor-Silex Inc. after 25 years of service. She is survived by her beloved husband, the Rev. John Robert "J.R." Nations, Jr. of the home; a son, Eddie Wayne Nations and his wife, Diane Gatewood Nations, of King; two daughters, Gladys Faye Nations and her partner, Eugene Lawson, of Mount Airy and Joy Lynne Nations Bowman and her husband, Clifford W. Bowman, of Pilot Mountain; five grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Albert Draughn of Supply; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Roena Goins and Lois Gammons, both of Mount Airy, and Nancy White Potter of Dobson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nations was preceded in death by a son, Michael Ray Nations; a great-grandson, Saxon Nations; four sisters, Betty Cox, Mallie Cox Venable, Lillie Cox Redmon, and Gertrude Cox Draughn; and five brothers, Harvey Cox, Earnest Cox, Roy Cox, Rufus Cox, and Willie Cox. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at 3:00 PM at Whitaker Chapel United Methodist Church, with Brother Don Collins, the Rev. Timothy Burton, and the Rev. Danny Poindexter officiating. The children of Mrs. Nations will also share heartfelt comments and reflections. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, and other times at the home of Joy Lynne and Clifford W. Bowman, 276 Springfield Road, Pilot Mountain. Her body will lie-in-state 30 minutes at the church prior to the funeral service.
