Miss Faye Ester Sawyers, 78, of 404 Jefferies Street, Mount Airy, passed away Friday morning, April 13, 2012, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Miss Sawyers was born August 14, 1933, in Surry County, one of eleven children born to the late Dock and Delia Lawson Sawyers. She was a homemaker and a member of the Christian faith. She is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Linda and Walter Green and Brenda Sawyers, all of Mount Airy, and Glenda Evans of Virginia Beach, VA; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Elvis Junior Sawyers and Joel "Jody" and Terry Sawyers, all of Mount Airy, and Lewis and Barbara Sawyers of Burlington; twenty grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Opal Simpson of Mount Airy and Peggy Draughn of Ararat; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Linda Shinault, Polly Lawson, Beulah Whitaker, Mary Hanks, Claudine Ayers, Barbara, and Curtis and Molly Hill. In addition to her parents, Miss Sawyers was preceded in death by an infant daughter; two infant sisters; two infant brothers; two sisters, Phyllis Chappell and Myrtle Allen; and two brothers, Cecil Sawyers and Clarence Sawyers. The funeral service will be held Sunday, April 15, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Gary Sawyers and the Rev. Steve Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawson Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Linda and Walter Green, 326 Leonard Road, Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407-2145.
