Florence Stanton Webb

Mrs. Florence "Pose" Stanton Webb, 91, of Mount Airy, passed away Saturday night, October 11, 2014, at her home. A native of Boston, MA, Mrs. Webb was born March 1, 1923, and was the daughter of the late John and Ruth Dupree Stanton. "Pose" was educated in the public schools of Boston. Upon her high school graduation, she attended and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University and later earned a Master of Arts degree from St. Louis University. She also attended other academic programs throughout the years at The University of Maryland, The University of Vienna, Austria, The University of Paris, and Bryant and Stratton in Boston. Her past civic activities included secretary of Community Concert Association, president of Chaminade Music Club, president of Latin Honor Society, president of Keystone-Northfork Women's Club, and a volunteer therapist for cerebral palsy. "Pose" worked for several years for Bernard Baruch and Robert Oppenheimer at the United States Representative Atomic Energy Commission. She was a classroom teacher in the public school system in St. Louis, MO, and Springfield, MA. While teaching in Massachusetts, she reviewed and proofread for Massachusetts Teachers Federation. A lifelong Methodist, she was a member of Keystone United Methodist Church in West Virginia. She is survived by many special friends and caregivers. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Webb was preceded in death by her husband, F. Alvin Webb. A service of worship and celebration of "Pose's" life will be held Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 9:30 until 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or a charity of the donor's choice.
