Frances Evelyn Ingram Avant

Mrs. Frances Evelyn Ingram Avant, 93, of Rockingham, passed away Friday evening, August 28, 2015, at the home of her son in Pilot Mountain. Mrs. Avant was born February 25, 1922, in Richmond County, the second of seven children born to the late Sanders Thomas Ingram, Sr. and Ida Mae Jolly Ingram. Evelyn worked in several textile mills in Richmond County throughout her entire adult life. She is survived by a daughter, Jeanette McCray of Rockingham; a son and daughter-in-law, Oscar Floyd and Zana Avant of Pilot Mountain; twelve grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lillian Stafford of Raleigh and Arlene Champney of Winston-Salem; and a brother, Jack Ingram of Ellerbe. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Avant was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Lennis Avant; a daughter, Patricia Avant Lemar; two sons, Richard Avant and Jerry Avant; a grandson, Jerry Yi Avant; a sister, Eva Mae Ingram Rhein; and two brothers, John Ingram and Sanders Thomas Ingram, Jr. A private interment will be held at Richmond County Memorial Park in Rockingham. There will not be a formal visitation or service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Richmond County Hospice, Inc., 1119 US Highway 1 North, Rockingham, NC 28379. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family.
