Frances Rakes

         Mrs. Frances W. Rakes, age 80 of Bassett, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2020 at the Rocky Mount Health and Rehab.  She was born in Henry County on August 9, 1939 to the late Ernest Wiggington and Martha Powell Wiggington.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Jackson Curtis “Jack” Martin, Sr; her 2nd husband, Carlton Delano Rakes; one son, Jerry David Martin; and three brothers, Ernest Wiggington, Jr, Thomas Wiggington, and James Wiggington.  Mrs. Rakes had retired from United Elastic with over 40 years of service.

         Surviving are two daughters, Wanda M. Gallegos of Bassett, Rita Martin of Bassett; four sons, Jackson Curtis Martin Sr. of Florida, Cecil Martin of Georgia, William Martin of Woolwine, Richard Martin of Bassett; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one brother, Bruce Floyd Wiggington of Horsepasture; and several nieces and nephews.
