Frances Ruth Ramey Smith

Mrs. Frances Ruth Ramey Smith, 72, of 167 Salem Drive, Mount Airy, passed away early Sunday morning, March 1, 2015, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Smith was born October 25, 1942, in West Virginia, one of six children born to the late Jay and Dannie Harmon Ramey. Frances retired from Henredon Furniture Company after many years of service and was a member of Woodland Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, James "Jim" Smith of the home; a daughter, Lisa Whitaker Goins of Mount Airy; a son, Jim Whitaker of Galax, VA; her grandchildren, Hannah Goins and Jacob Goins, both of Mount Airy, and Jamie and Susan Whitaker of Fancy Gap, VA; her great-grandchildren, Jaeton Whitaker and Jamin Whitaker, both of Fancy Gap, VA; a sister, Patsy Ramey Clyburn of Fries, VA; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Pete and Dian Ramey of Winston-Salem and C.L. and Linda Ramey of King; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Ramey Gwyn; and a brother, Jackey Ramey. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2015, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Jimmy Slate, the Rev. Adrian Ramey, and the Rev. Jason Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home, and other times at the home of Lisa Whitaker Goins, 526 Bennett Street, Mount Airy.
