Freida Sue Melton Akers

Mrs. Freida Sue Melton Akers, age 68, of Iron Station, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Caromont Medical Center. She was born on February 24, 1947 to Howard Clayton and Evelyn Frost Melton. Mrs. Akers was retired from Bell South in customer service and was a member of Christian Fellowship Assembly. She loved Art and won the Gold Key Award at Mt. Airy High School, and was a member of the National Honor Society in high school. Music was a big part of her life, she sang with her husband, Charles her sister, Peggy and Rev. Doug Butcher on WPAQ Radio Station in Mt. Airy. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Charles Akers; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Billy McRorie; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Rhonda Akers; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Larry Smith; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 13, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Paul Brintley officiating. Burial will follow in Laurel Springs Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 PM until time for the service at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
